DEBATE: The Gameshow
Since Obama took office the Republicans have been trying to figure out who they will run against him. Then came the debates, all 1000 of them. OK, maybe not 1000 but it seems that way. I have a proposal for the debates, lets stop pretending that they make a difference. Anyone watching them knows where the candidates stand, that is reported in the news day after day. So why do we want to watch them repeat themselves standing on a stage together? Here's my proposal and I think it will fly. Lets turn it into a game show. Here is the set up; we put them behind stands like they have on Jeopardy. Then instead of having some pretty boy from Fox News or CNN we put Alex Trebek in the driver's seat. On one side of the stage, we have the candidates standing together on one side, we put up a board with categories and little blocks under them. OK OK OK, its just like Jeopardy. In case you haven't noticed, that is my idea. The candidates pick a category and a box below it. Alex reads the answer and the candidates have to hit the button and guess which candidate would give that answer along with the question they were asked. How about that? Oh, and we do not choose who is in the audience, we just bring in everyone. Lets use the Cowboys new stadium, the stage midfield, and fill the place to capacity. This would not only be entertaining but it would give the answer without having to hear them try to get out of an answer they gave before. In the wings we would have judges who look over the candidates previous answers and give a YES or NO final answer. This way the candidate would have to stand on his or her stance from before. Perhaps we could even get this as the format for the Presidential debates. Wouldn't it be fun to watch the candidate squirm as their positions are read? They wouldn't be able to get out of what they said in some small community gathering a few years ago. The fun thing is that even if the crowd is not applauding or booing we could use a laugh track. In the end we are entertained, the candidates are held to their answers, and the people get the truth.
